We provide refurbished technology, digital literacy programs, and promote sustainable practices, driven by a shared commitment to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the digital age.
OUR MISSION
The Digital Education Foundation’s (DEF) mission is to foster digital opportunities by ensuring that everybody in our communities has access to the technology, training, and resources needed to succeed in the digital world. Through device distribution, computer lab deployments, and workforce development, we repurpose electronics, reduce e-waste, and empower communities through digital education.

VEATRICE FARRELL
CHIEF COMMUNITY OFFICER DIGITAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC.
Veatrice Farrell leads community strategy at the Digital Education Foundation, where she champions access to digital opportunities for historically excluded communities. In 2025, her leadership helped secure a $6.9 million federal grant recommendation from the NTIA to expand digital literacy in St. Petersburg — one of only a few projects selected nationwide. Her work centers on providing broadband access, devices, and digital skills training through programs that repurpose technology and empower families, students, and seniors.
With a background in banking and over a decade of community revitalization experience as Executive Director of Deuces Live, Veatrice blends strategic insight with a deep commitment to equity. A graduate of Florida A&M University, she also serves on the boards of key local arts organizations and co-leads Hypatia Collaborative, supporting nonprofit capacity-building.
TONY SELVAGGIO
FOUNDER DIGITAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC.
Tony Selvaggio is an entrepreneurial leader passionate about environmental sustainability and digital literacy. Launching the company in 2014, originally known as Scrap on Spot, Selvaggio has been pivotal in steering eSmart Recycling towards its mission of promoting electronic recycling to safeguard the environment and support underserved communities through access to technology. Under his leadership, eSmart Recycling has not only emerged as a key player in electronic recycling but also as a social enterprise that embeds Selvaggio’s values of community engagement, environmental responsibility, and the empowerment of individuals through digital access. Selvaggio’s vision for eSmart Recycling transcends traditional recycling efforts, focusing on creating a tangible impact on both the planet and people’s lives by turning electronic waste into opportunities for education and connectivity.
